Our Chardonnay comes from vineyards in Carneros which is a sub AVA of Napa. The vineyards are on a blend of soil types ranging from sandy soils to slightly heavier, clay-based soils. The heavier soils allow for a gentle maturation which provides a richer mouthfeel while the sandy, sloped vineyard provides an aromatic lift. Together, the fruit harmonizes to great a well-balanced Chardonnay. The wine was 100% barrel fermented in a mix of Francois Frere and Baron oak barrels – 30% new – for 10 months before bottling. The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation with a mix of native and inoculated ferments.
Our 2020 LVE Chardonnay is full, rich and balanced. The nose boasts aromas of white fruit, star jasmine and honeydew melon. Full, rich and long on the palate, it’s reminiscent of crème anglaise and toasted brioche with a hint of nutmeg and citrus zest.
