The grapes for this Red Wine are from a blend of four vineyard sources. The Merlot is from St Helena and Calistoga where the warmer climate helps lift the fruit and gives the wine a lightness and brightness. The Petite Sirah is from a vineyard in Rutherford, an area that exaggerates the tannins that Petit Sirah is known for and provides structure. Finally, the Petit Verdot from Oak Knoll which puts forward the texture of the varietal and allows it to shine. The Merlot went through extended maceration with the wines being on the skins for 31 days. The Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah were pressed off at dryness so as not to over extract the tannins. The wine was then aged for 19 months in small French oak barrels (Radoux and Seguin Moreau) – 43% new– before being bottled. - Appellation: Napa Valley - Varietal: 67% Merlot | 25% Petite Sirah | 8% Petit Verdot - Alcohol: 14.5% by vol. - pH: 3.63 - TA: 5.2 g/L - Aged 19 months in French oak barrels, 43% new oak
The LVE Napa Valley Red opens with rich aromas of blackberry, violets and black cherry, with a hint of tea and pepper. The harmonious blend of weighty tannins from the Petite Sirah with the suppleness of Merlot and the Petit Verdot creates a complex wine with length and persistence on the palate accompanied by notes of cocoa nibs and espresso.
