The grapes for this Red Wine are from a blend of three vineyard sources. The Petite Sirah is from a vineyard in Rutherford and from a vineyard in the northern parts of Napa Valley. The Merlot is sourced from Oak Knoll where it is able to ripen at lower sugar and alcohol levels which brings more heat. This brings out more texture in the wine and balances the tannins of the Petite Sirah. The Merlot went through extended maceration with the wines being on the skins for 31 days. The wine was then aged for 20 months in a mix of tight grain, Radoux and Berthomieu French oak barrels – 15% new –before being bottled. Appellation: Napa Valley Varietal: 65% Petite Sirah, 35% Merlot, Alcohol: 15% by vol. pH: 3.71 TA: 5.9 g/L Aged 20 months in French oak barrels, 15% new oak
The LVE Napa Valley Red opens with rich aromas of blackberry, violets and sugar plum, with a hint of tea and pepper. The harmonious blend of weighty tannins from the Petite Sirah with the suppleness of Merlot creates a complex wine with length and persistence on the palate accompanied by notes of earth, espresso and mocha.
