The grapes for this Red Wine are from a blend of four vineyard sources. The Merlot is from Oak Knoll and Calistoga where the warmer climate helps the brightness of the fruit pop and provides texture. The Petite Sirah is from a vineyard in Rutherford and another in Oak Knoll, The Rutherford terroir helps enhance the inherent structure and tannins that are present in Petite Sirah. The Calistoga vineyard allows the jammy characteristics of Petite Sirah to shine and balances the structure from the other Petite Sirah. The Merlot went through extended maceration with the wines being on the skins for 38 days. The Petite Sirah was pressed off at dryness so as not to over-extract the tannins. The wine was then aged for 19 months in small French oak barrels (Radoux and Demptos) – 11% new– before being bottled. - Appellation: Napa Valley - Varietal: 60% Merlot | 40% Petite Sirah - Alcohol: 14.5% by vol. - pH: 3.61 - TA: 6.0 g/L - Aged 19 months in French oak barrels, 11% new oak

Tasting Notes

The LVE Napa Valley Red opens with rich aromas of black currant, violets and black cherry, with a hint of tea and pepper. The harmonious blend of structured tannins from the Petite Sirah with the suppleness of Merlot creates a complex wine with length and persistence on the palate accompanied by notes of cocoa nibs and earth.
